Eco-Friendly Lawns - How to Go Green and Still Maintain a Green Lawn
Many people wonder how to maintain a green lawn while protecting the planet or the health of their children and pets. Sarah Surroz, Conservation and Outreach Manager for Conserve Lake County, will present information on eco-friendly lawns at an event host
ed by the Lake-to-Prairie Chapter of Wild Ones, a national non-profit that promotes the use of native plants in landscapes.
Savings in time and money are high on the list of benefits Surroz will cover as she shares a variety of approaches people can choose from, depending on their goals and property. They range from simple changes in mowing habits to full-fledged natural lawn care or installation of low-mow grass. Whether people hire lawn care companies or handle their own turf maintenance, the talk will provide valuable tips that allow them to move from conventional lawn care to more ecologically friendly approaches, thereby reducing health and environmental concerns.
This presentation supports Conservation@Home, the Chicago region's popular eco-friendly lawn and garden program, now available in Lake County through Conserve Lake County. Through Conservation@Home, county residents can receive free consultations for their properties, and qualifying properties are certified and receive a free certification sign.
